About Maiko Nagayama : Maiko Nagayama is an award winning Japanese born London jewellery designer. She was born and raised in Tokyo and consequently inspired by her father's architecture works, human behavior in the city, new technology and scientific discoveries. Maiko developed her passion for design and art making from a very young age, peeling off wall paper and creating shapes in her bedroom and always drawing quietly. Her British sojourn since 1999 broadened her mind. She graduated BA Jewellery design in Cenral Saint Martins in 2006 and GIA G.G. in 2009. She established her own fine jewellery brand in the same as she became graduated gemologist. Her brand brings a new sense of identity to fine jewellery industry.
STATEMENT OF ART:
"Design" is always based on research. Need is the mother of invention. Innovative designs can help solve certain problems, as well as satisfy aesthetic pleasure. "Art" is an expression of each individual's personal energy, inspiration, and imagination. Fine Jewellery is precious, and with the right care and protection, can remain as valuable family hairlooms for centuries. My motto as a jewellery designer is to break the boundary between "design" and "art"; to always be original; and to create jewellery with artistic, functional, philosophy and aesthetic splendour. This motto satisfies the desire of wearing an innovative art piece alongside relishing the functionality of it as well - which reflects current day demand. The power of a well-crafted piece of jewellery transcends our expectations: it may hold a symbolic sentimental, religious, or spiritual meaning for those who wear it - it may, in a wonderful instance of sprendipity, spark a sensation unforeseen.
