FAQ Entry #32

Home > Support > Frequently Asked Questions > 32

This is a respond to a previously asked question about the A' Design Award and Competition. The full list of frequently asked questions can be accessed here.

#32: Why can I not submit my designs in native design formats; for example Autocad Drawings (DWG) files for the architectural design competitions? or other CAD formats?

Because the jury does not have enough time to check different file formats due to the number of participants, also we might not have all the programs installed, and another constraint is the quality of jury members; these people are busy bees and we cannot let them spent so many hours downloading each design and viewing it separately, in different programs, in addition we also give a score to presentation and this way we cannot vote the presentation aspect if we receive submissions in native formats. Thirdly, it is difficult to publish the drawings; they are not attractive enough for media unless they are really well represented, or rendered. Finally submitting your files in JPEG format assures that your designs will be viewable by the jury members platform independently. JPEG is viewable by anyone but any other format requires a program to be installed that can decode the file and this could not be always possible. Please note that some custom competitions might require you have native design files to be submitted as a compliment, however if this is the case, it will be written in the brief.
