About Lisa Falkenstern : While I know the unexamined life is not worth living, I spend very little time thinking about why I am important. I am happy to have achieved a living doing what I want to do. I guess my contribution to society is through my art and my books. When I meet people, who know of my work, they seem to be happy to meet me and to discuss my paintings. That’s it, I truly hate to talk about myself.
STATEMENT OF ART:
I am, for the most part, an imaginary realist painter. All my life I have been entranced by fantasy art. As a child, my earliest purchases were from an antique bookstore in New York City. It was a few tattered Beatrix Potter books and a book of fairy tales Illustrated by Harry Clarke, missing most of its spine. That was the start. Fantasy art, for me, delights the eye and intrigues the mind. To look at a piece of art, and get lost in its images and stories is very pleasurable.
I think imagery in art is very important, it draws people in and makes them think. I believe you can paint representational art and still keep the abstract values of form, design and color. The kind of representational art that doesn't adhere to the concepts of abstract art are not good art.
