Valeria Romanova
FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
VR: My way of becoming a designer began at the age of 10. At that age I realized that I wanted to become an Product Designer. After school, I started to gradually move towards my goal. During the studies I developed projects for some companies, after a few summer placements I began working in one of the leading studios. In addition to my main work, I try to promote my projects and participate in competitions.

FS: What is "design" for you?
VR: For me "design" is something that meets the needs of users, something that can solve a problem, and also it is something that does not forget about aesthetics.

FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology?
VR: I do not have anything suitable for the description of "favorite", as I prefer not to limit myself and work with any materials, platforms and technologies.

FS: When do you feel the most creative?
VR: I don't have any specific moment, because creative insight can happen at any time.

FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?
VR: First of all, I take into account the needs of the user, then I focus on the aesthetic part of the project.

FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?
VR: Inspiration, concentration, desire to achieve the goal.

FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized?
VR: Incredible satisfaction, pride and expectation for comments and reactions of users.

FS: What makes a design successful?
VR: Understanding the audience and the problems to be solved.

FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first?
VR: By how created project meets the required goal.

FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?
VR: I think it is an understanding of what you are doing and why, only in this case there will be development and progress for society and environment.

FS: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition?
VR: Last was SaloneSatellite WorldWide, Moscow, 2016, the next will be also in Moscow, at Mars gallery.

FS: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?
VR: I would say "No unnecessary moves".

FS: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?
VR: I live in Russia, in Moscow, but I do not feel that this fact influenced my works, except that my country Product Design is at the beginning of its development and there is need to work quite a lot to reach some result.
