DESIGN DETAILS
DESIGN NAME:
Wishbone

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Ring

INSPIRATION:
The popular expression 'my lucky break' derives from the tradition of breaking the wishbone. Once an ancient Roman tradition, a wish is granted to the person with the largest piece. Give this silver wishbone ring to a friend or a lover as a gesture of hope and well wishes. Make a wish and pull the silver pieces apart.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The concept brings together the idea of constant transformation and change. The ring is designed with a 925-carat silver ring plated with gold. As Newton’s Third Law of Motion, the laser stuck ring can be separated by breaking the tiny joint without leaving any marks on.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
The ring can be separated into two to create two individual rings. The rings are connected to each other with a hidden laser joint at the bottom. While breaking / separating rings, this tiny joint gets broken without leaving a mark on.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The project started in August 2017 in Istanbul and finished in January 2018 in Istanbul.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
Combination Of Silver And Gold Ring 8K Yellow Gold Sterling Silver Cocktail

SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES:
Rings Diameter Are All 19Mm

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
The physics behind wishbone breaking is simple. As Newton’s Third Law of Motion states: Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. Considering the action of ‘wishbone breaking’ as the force of pulling the wishbone apart with the hand, and then the reaction of ‘wishbone breaking’ as the silver part pushing back against your hand (or more simply, the observable tension of the tugged-upon wishbone at its focal point), the wishbone will break into two when the force of action is greater than the force of reaction. This is how the Wishbone ring breaks into two.

CHALLENGE:
The challenge of the design was to separate two silver rings apart without leaving a mark on.
