Raindrop Necklace by Takayas Mizuno

DESIGN DETAILS
DESIGN NAME:
Raindrop

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Necklace

INSPIRATION:
It was one evening in my office when I was staying late to finish some work for my existing clients. It was an overcast day that just made everything feel gloomy. Suddenly, it started raining outside. A few minutes of the therapeutic sound of raindrops splattering against the pavement, I was inspired to design a necklace that featured blue diamonds all along the chain as if raindrops were clinging to it.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
This necklace features blue, tear-shaped diamonds dripping all throughout. The 18K white gold chain is designed with soft curves inspired by flowing streams found in nature and is artfully draped with an abundance of blue diamonds, much in the same way dewdrops collect on a leaf. This refreshing design is elegant, but just as captivating as the first downpour of the season.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
Simply wear this necklace around your neck when the occasion calls. A good-weighted necklace for that special occasion will surely accessorize any cocktail dress and add elegance and sophistication.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
This project took several months to complete in Takayas Mizuno's studio in downtown Los Angeles.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
Inspired by raindrops, produced in CAD. Various blue diamonds featured on a brilliant 18K white gold necklace.

SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES:
16" necklace 45 ct total weight in diamonds 810 diamonds

TAGS:
necklace, raindrop, raindrops, rain, jewelry, white gold, blue diamonds, diamonds

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
Even though it hardly ever rains in Los Angeles, Takayas is originally from Japan where there are heavy rainy seasons in June, and was inspired by the natural properties of water. The beautiful shape of the raindrop is what Takayas wanted to use for his design. The rest of the necklace was designed by observing the natural properties of water and how it flows downwards on land or falling through the sky. The droplets appear to bunch at the bottom like how they would naturally fall in nature.

CHALLENGE:
The hardest part of this design was imaging upward strokes. Water never falls up. But we needed some upward movement in the design so visually it did not look so heavy at the bottom. I think the subtle movements on the side of the chain definitely help the overall look of this necklace.

Here at Takayas Custom Jewelry, we obsess over all the little details. If you have an existing piece of jewelry you would like to have recreated with minor adjustments here and there, Takayas takes the time to correct these details in the redesign to make sure they are 100% to your liking.
