DESIGN NAME:

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Cognitive Educational Toys

INSPIRATION:
Inspired by the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity, at the 15th Conference of the Parties (COP15), we chose to design educational toys with the theme of protecting 30% of marine and terrestrial areas by 2030. Designing educational toys is crucial because childhood is a critical period for children to understand the world. Providing opportunities for children to interact with nature helps cultivate their awareness and consciousness of environmental conservation.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
This is a children's educational toy centered around animal conservation areas, with both the animals and the conservation areas designed using square shapes as the basic unit. During play, children can experience how a conservation area is created and directly see how animals are protected. This allows children to understand and appreciate the process of planning and protecting animals. Playing with this toy also helps train children's hand-eye coordination, patience, and autonomy.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
The educational toy, centered around planning conservation areas, allows children to first learn about organisms and their habitats on Earth during the game. This fosters patience and focus. Next, they assemble the terrain, which enhances their visual observation skills. In the final stage, they begin stacking the conservation areas and animals, guided by cue cards, to immerse themselves in the interactive play experience with the toy.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The project commenced in June 2023 and concluded in March 2024, with the final exhibition held in Tainan, Taiwan, at the end of March.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
Research Type: STEAM Education - Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics. Objective: To understand the planning process of biological conservation areas and basic knowledge of environmental conservation concepts. Methodology: Morphological analysis, analysis of biological habitats, material analysis, analysis of toy types and sizes, analysis of open-ended play methods. Data Collection: Market surveys of children aged 3-6, analysis of the toy market for ages 3-6, and analysis of opinions from educators in early childhood education. Research Tools: Rhinoceros 3D, Adobe Illustrator, KeyShot.

CHALLENGE:
We chose wildlife conservation as our theme and focused our presentation on conservation areas. However, conservation areas are somewhat abstract, so we iteratively planned our presentation and curriculum to address children's difficulty in understanding. With numerous objects involved, we continuously adjusted our color scheme during the design process. Through multiple trials and corrections by the team, we ultimately achieved the ideal colors we envisioned.
