DESIGN DETAILS
DESIGN NAME:
Daluma

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Lamp

INSPIRATION:
Daluma is inspired principally by the daruma, a Japanese lucky doll that always maintains balance due to its shape. in addition to swinging movement when it is in support, this dynamic of precarious but solid stability has been emphasized by transforming it into an object similar to a floating buoy, with an aquatic and light shape also using the membrane of an inflating dinghy to give it a different aspect from the usual lamps, more related to temporariness.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Daluma is a portable lamp that can be used in all ways and in all circumstances. It can be placed, hung, carried like a lantern. It can stand indoors or outdoors, be a bedside lamp or a camping lamp. it can even work in water and float because its body is inflatable, it is an inseparable companion for anyone. It always remains in balance because it uses the principle of the Japanese daruma and this principle and the inflatable shell make it practically indestructible.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
Daluma is a simple and efficient lamp. Unpack, inflate, use and eventually reload it. It rests, carries, hangs, floats, straightens and manages the light intensity so that it can be used in any place for any need. It will be an inseparable companion for anyone. Inside and outside the home.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The project started in Febrary 2021 in Teramo and finished in October 2021 in Teramo

FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY:
Lighting Products and Fixtures Design

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
Daluma is a light and versatile LED lamp. It is built with an ABS plastic shell and an inflatable part in polyvinyl chloride which give the object a rigid and resistant base and a light, flexible and shockproof lampshade. It can be immersed in water because it has an IP68 seal. It is recharged by induction by placing it on its base. colors and finishes of the materials are variable. The inflatable part can also be transparent but satin. The package has small dimensions because it must contain the size of the charger base with its power supply and the rigid body of the lamp: the inflatable part folds up on itself, canceling out its volume.

SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES:
Dimensione: W200mm X D200mm X H500mm Packaging: W250mm X D250mm X H150mm

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
The research was first of all oriented on functionality: the lamp had to be versatile and resilient to find a place in all environments. Secondly, there was the research for the most economical and performing materials that could, together, achieve the desired result. In the end, formal research and iconic anchors were tackled to give coherence and meaning to the product: the buoy and the Japanese daruma therefore acted as an amalgamation of the multiple instances of the product.

CHALLENGE:
The creative challenge was to create a product with an almost temporary aesthetics and functionality but which still managed to have the elegance and the presence of an everyday and stable object, such as a bedside lamp.
