Interview with Vandana Tiwari Sharma at Thursday 19th of April 2012

FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
VS: The Inspiration was the Brain Cell and it's transmitters

FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
VS: Illumination of the key areas of a space and to keep a visual flow

FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
VS: To be bought by a light fixture manufacturer, so it can be produced

FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
VS: took about 2 weeks

FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
VS: It seemed unique to me.

FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
VS: I would like this design to bought by a light fixture manufacturer

FS: What made you design this particular type of work?
VS: I challenged myself to explore into an unknown zone to create something unique. But it was pretty intuitive and effortless.

FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
VS: May be, Karim Rashid

FS: Who is the target customer for his design?
VS: Public spaces' Interiors

FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
VS: It's shape and form is rather uniquely refreshing

FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
VS: As these light fixtures were a proposed design for a building named Black Fan.

FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
VS: Sketch up and Photoshop.

FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
VS: The double headed wall scones and unusual mix of materials like plastic with crystals

FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
VS: I conceived and created the design for the light fixtures and the cafe, and then for the final presentation purposes, cad drawings were produced by my partner Nataliya Demarco.

FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
VS: 3D modeling in Google Sketchup was a breeze. My salute to technology

FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
VS: N/A

FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
VS: The Challenge remains....as it needs to be physically produced.

FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
VS: Great feedback from local Architects and designers

FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
VS: I found out that I am good designer after all with universal appeal

FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions?
VS: NO
