| DESIGN NAME: Stratas.02 PRIMARY FUNCTION: LED-Spotlight INSPIRATION: ...in my office... UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Stratas.02 is a new LED spotlight revolutionising the industry standard. It has been designed exclusively for the Xicato XSM Artist Series LED Module, providing the spotlight with the best colour rendering LED in its class. The Stratas.02 is refined and finely detailed with a clean and minimal design. Its concealed track mounting mechanism within the base/ LED driver keeps it free of all additional clutter. Everything extraneous has been pared back and with no exterior protrusions or knobs makes it the perfect complement to architecturally designed spaces, lighting of artwork and interior environments. While other LED spotlights have a large unsightly heat sink on the rear of the product to dissipate heat, the characteristic slot in this spotlight’s body maximises heat sink performance while maintaining the minimal and clean aesthetic of the Stratas.02 design. This recessed slot allows air to flow into the fixture at the mounting position of the LED module, through the heat sink fins and out the rear of the product for efficient cooling whilst maintaining the smooth cylindrical form. All thermal design has been tested an approved by Xicato in their Netherlands based test facility. The easy to change reflectors require no tools and allow the user to change between any of the three provided reflectors with ease. The honeycomb anti-glare louvre provides clean and effective lighting, while the compact overall size of the fixture is minimal and unobtrusive. The Stratas.02 is a performance spotlight that maintains a clean aesthetic appeal, making use of the best materials to achieve a product that is not only attractive, but both efficient and ergonomic. The Stratas.02 is manufactured to the highest quality control standards in powder coated aluminium and is available in a range of colours. Technical data: - Xicato XSM Artist Series LED module: Colour Rendering Index >/= 95, 1000lm, 22.1W, 700mA, 3000 K warm white (2700 K/ 4000 K available on request). - 3-circuit adapter for Eutrac and Erco Track; integrated electronic LED driver and potentiometer for dimming-control. - 3 reflectors: 20˚ spot, 40˚ medium, 60˚ flood. - 0˚- 90˚ vertical tilt and 360˚ rotation. - Available in white, silver or black (other colours available on request). OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The installation of the Stratas.02 track mounted spotlight is simple and intuitive. Before installation, 1 of 3 possible lighting circuits are pre-selectable by rotating the angle of the track mounting mechanism. This determines which circuit the light will be powered up on in rooms with more then one lighting circuit. The base is then held into the track and locked into place with a 90° turn of the included allen key (not shown). That's all it takes to safely make the electrical connection and it can only be fitted in one direction so it's not possible to fit it incorrectly. An electrician is not required. The spotlight is now fitted and powered up and the head can be adjusted to the desired rotation tilt. If the light distribution is too narrow or too wide, the reflectors can be changed without tools to one of the other 2 included reflectors. Installation complete. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The Stratas.02 is designed specifically for the 22.1Watt Xicato XSM Atrist series LED Module which has a CRI (Colour Rendering Index) of >95 out of a possible 100. It is the latest LED technology and the best LED module in its class for true colour rendering. It will suit both "EuTrack" and "Erco" track system which is the 2 main standards in Europe and most of the world. It is supplied as standard with 3 reflectors with 20° spot, 40° medium and 60° flood distributions. It has full 0°-90° vertical tilt and 360° rotation. It is manufactured from machined high grade/ fully recyclable aluminium and brass. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 130x80x167mm and see attached diagrams. TAGS: LED Spotlight Xicato track mounting lighting RESEARCH ABSTRACT: LED technology is developing at an alarming rate and we identify that this is the future of lighting technology and wanted to design a sustainable and long lasting product. We began searching the worldwide market for the LED module with the best quality of light. After discussions with a number of LED module manufacturers we selected the Xicato XSM Artist module as it has the highest colour rendering available in the world. From there we purchased a number of the LED modules and began the design of the spotlight specifically for this LED module. This began months of thermal testing/ re-designing and communication with Xicato to ensure we had the LED module efficiently cooled and performing at its best. CHALLENGE: The most important thing with LEDs is to keep them cool or the long life quality of the LED will be dramatically shortened. Many spotlights on the market have large, unsightly looking heat sinks on the rear of the product so the challenge was how to ensure efficient cooling and conceal the heat sink . After months of prototyping and testing we arrived at the solution of enclosing the heat sink in a thin aluminium tube and recessing a deep slot mid way along the body of the fixture. This allows the air into the heat sink at base of the LED module and is channelled through the fitting and out the rear where it is not easily seen when looked at from below. Of course the final proportions and details were chosen after many many tests and the final product is both very clean and the thermal testing has been approved for this LED module.
